Music and Family
I interviewed my dad for this blog assignment, he is in his 50's and grew up during the 80's at first when he was old enough to start actually listening to music. He said that he did not listen to basically any music up until he was about 11 or 12. After that, he started listening to rock on the radio or on record with his parents or friends. Shortly after MTV started to become popular. Color TV was a thing and music media shifted towards it, and music videos started to be created. This popularized music in a way that did not happen before, and my dad caught onto it when he was in his teens. He liked rock the most, mostly classic 70's and 80's rock, and the popular bands and songs that were featured on MTV. This includes bands like Dire Straits and the Buggles, and songs like "Take On Me" and "Rock the Caspar." His music taste honestly did not change all that much after that, music changed from the poppy 80's rock scene to grunge during the late 80's into the 90's. My dad liked a lot of rock and grunge then, including Dire Straits, Alice in Chains, Led Zeppelin, and The Rolling Stones. These bands eventually became very popular and still are today, so it is fair to say my dad has a good music taste. He also mentioned that he went to the last ever official Rolling Stones tour so I thought that was cool. Apparently he has not listened to much music anymore since his 30's or 40's, and has lost track of music a little bit. But he enjoyed all rock music for all of the time he spent listening to music when he was younger. He also says that he enjoys country a lot, not any specific bands or songs but classic country back in the 80's. His friends would listen to it and he would hear it in the college bars so that was another genre he likes a lot. If I had to guess maybe some of these country artists would be Hank Williams Jr, Marty Robbins, or Kenny Chesney. I don't know a lot of classic county but Colter Wall is similar to some older country. Overall, he has a pretty general music taste of someone of his age, and I actually listen to a few bands he likes too.
